Hameau de Casterino

The town of Castérino is situated 1550 meters high, in the city limits of Tende, in the upper Orya Valley. Surrounded by the Sainte Marie (2740 meters), Chajol (2293 meters) and Agnelino (2201) mountains, Castérino is the main access road to the Valley of Wonders. A scenic walk will take you to the small Castérino lake, along the Casterine stream and through pleasant meadows where alpine flora is particularly abundant. In the spring, you will observe many species of orchids, (orchidea sambucina, the manina rosea…). Along the river and the lake, you can see the dipper, a small passerine bird that sports a white chest and never strays far from the water.

For a week’s holiday or for a long relaxing weekend, for a seminar or a special event, the Chamois d’Or is the ideal hotel for an unforgettable stay at the entrance to La Vallée des Merveilles, (the “Valley of Marvels”) and the Mercantour National Park.
Surrounded by splendid high-altitude lakes and inspiring mountain landscapes, the Chamois d’Or is a warm and elegant mountain chalet. We have 29 rooms, a restaurant, a café and a spa.

During your stay you will enjoy the fresh mountain air and have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of leisure activities.

All our rooms have an en-suite bathroom, television, mini bar and telephone: they are individual but designed in the same style. After an excursion in the Vallée des Merveilles or a long meeting you will enjoy the peacefulness of our rooms and the helpfulness of our staff. Some of the rooms have a large balcony from which you can enjoy the view of the Valley of Casterino.

You may choose to lodge in the flat: there is an entrance hall and two bedrooms, one with a double bed.

Restaurant & Caffé

Our restaurant will seduce you with its creative dishes based on traditional cuisine and its typical Mediterranean colours. Our à la carte menu offers mountain gourmet specialties and traditional Italian cuisine.

The Chamois d’Or restaurant has two rooms and is ideal for any sort of event. The “Stube”, in Tirolean style, is the perfect environment for a more intimate dinner; the large dining-room, on the other hand, is designed to host large parties and sumptuous banquets and here you will have the pleasure of tasting the Chef’s roast cooked on the spit in the grand central fireplace. The large outdoor wooden patio, surrounded by flowers, has an open air kitchen where our staff will prepare your barbecue before your eyes.

Our wine list has a wide selection of Italian and French wines.

The hotel coffee-shop is open all day with its usual refreshments and a wide selection of wines and spirits. It is the ideal place for a snack that you may want to have on the beautiful terrace where you will be spoiled by our staff.
